WordPress 6.9が12月2日にリリース確定！ベータサイクルも開始
WordPressコアチームは、次期メジャーリリース「WordPress 6.9」に向けた開発サイクルを正式に開始しました。
2025年10月時点でベータ版（Beta 2）までが公開されており、正式リリースは 2025年12月2日（火） に予定されています。

今回のベータフェーズでは、WordPress 6.9で予定されているエディタやパフォーマンス関連の変更点を中心にテストが行われています。
特に、以下の領域で多くの修正・改善が進められています。
- ブロックエディタ（Gutenberg）統合機能の安定化： ブロックパターンやスタイル管理、ナビゲーション編集の改善
- サイトエディタ（Site Editor）の操作性強化： テンプレート・テンプレートパーツの編集体験向上
- パフォーマンス最適化： データベースクエリやテーマレンダリングの処理改善による表示速度の向上
- アクセシビリティ改善： 管理画面内のキーボードナビゲーションやスクリーンリーダー対応の強化
また、Gutenbergプロジェクトでは、WordPress 6.9に統合される予定の新要素として、コマンドパレットの拡張やTerms Query Block（カテゴリやタグ単位でコンテンツを呼び出すブロック）などが試験的に実装されています。

ベータ段階ではすでに多くの修正が反映されており、Trac上では33件以上のエディタ関連チケット、および28件のコアチケットが処理済みと報告されています。これにより、安定性や互換性の向上が期待されます。
Automattic vs WP Engineの法廷闘争が激化
WordPressエコシステムを支える2社、Automattic（WordPress.com運営元）とWP Engine（マネージドホスティング大手）の対立が激化しています。
両社の対立は2024年秋の商標権をめぐる訴訟に端を発しますが、2025年10月に新たな訴状・反訴が提出され、コミュニティ内外で大きな注目を集めています。
Automatticは10月24日、テキサス州連邦地裁にてWP Engineに対し反訴を正式に提出し、「WordPressの商標を不正に利用して顧客を誤認させた」とブログで発表しました。Automatticの声明によると、「WP Engineが自社サービスをWordPress公式と誤解させるような表現を行っており、ブランドの信用を損ねた」としています。

一方、WP Engineも同月初旬に修正版訴状を提出し、Automattic側の行為を「市場支配的地位の乱用」および「オープンソースの理念への背反」として非難しました。

現時点でWordPress.orgやWordPress.comの一般ユーザーへの直接的影響は限定的ですが、WP Engine経由でWordPress.org APIを利用している一部の顧客で更新機能の一時停止が発生しているようなので、運用現場では注意が必要です。
